  1. In my personal opinion, one of the problems that the indigenous communities in Costa Rica have is that they are usually located in very remote areas, these are very dificult to arrive in, so any help that the people need, for example some medical emergensy or something of this nature, it would be, in some ocations, almost imposible to the medical help to be there to help.
In adition to the last statement, there are almost any basic services in these areas as well, so is very easy to thse people to get sick, luckely, like the article said, there are stil people that have commitment to help these people.
I think that the indigenous communities for having a better life conditions need to have the basic services to a better reach.

  2. Here in Costa Rica, we have various programs to help the indigenous population. But the main problem that authorities have is that they live in really isolated zones, this makes really difficult to access and people have to use some of the resources to get to that areas (like the use of helicopters to transport people, food and medical instruments). Examples of these programs are gather of food, clothes and toys for kids. Also the programs to offer better medical service and better education.
All these programs make easier for kids to get studies and be part of our society, but some times they want to stay there and live with their mores. Also, there are people that came to the metropolitan area looking for works to give their families a better economical situation. A solution to this problem could be to create local jobs for doctors and teachers that came form that zones, so they can help other people and encourage the new generations to look for better living conditions.
To conclude, the government needs to be more active in programs to help indigenous people, but they also have to use this opportunities to get a better life.

  3. Costa Rica is a country where it supposes that all people is the happiest in the world, but is not true, a lot of people have many problems and only a few are really good. For example, the indigenous situation in Costa Rica could be better because actually they have a life extremely poor, they don’t have important recourses like: access to food, money, medicine: hospitals, pharmacies, doctors, appropriated infrastructure, and others. It is true that always the country helps that people with food, materials and stuffs like pillows, blankets, sheets, medicines, books, clothes, kitchen utensils, etc. Off course all these things are necessary and good, but it is enough because these people don’t deserve that Costa Rica help them only in bad situations or issues, it is extremely necessary that really all the country include this people because they can do a lot of things but they are always discriminated and seen like the poor ones. The situation could improve if the state giving them the opportunity for do their jobs free, with their property and grounds, given the chance of live a better life.

    1. Costa Rica has a lot of indigenous communities. They are so far from the cities. Most of these people don't have medical assistance or facilities to move to grocery stores, drugstores or stores in general.
Sometimes you can see indigenous people acroos the Avenida Central aking for money or food, suferrring cold and under raining. I think the situation is complicated because many peoplie come into his territory to investigate or build and they can´t satnd up for.
But also many people help them, some volunteers or people from the municipality or health centres go to this places to bring support.
The government should make plans to guarantee a better life to this population. They need conserve his territory, his costumes but we can bring to them a way to improve his situation. Costa Rica is a peaceful country and so we must protect the native population because they were the first population of the country and brought us our culture and legacy.

  5. In Costa Rica the government don’t have a good program for help indigenous communities around the country. The different programs are inefficient and little constants so these communities have been forgotten for the government because don’t receive the attention they need, don’t have a constants health attention, good education, good basic service like potable water, electric service etc.
But I know different groups of volunteers want to help these communities but the government and also leaders of these communities make many obstacles and also the groups will need to pay if they go for help. So I think the government need to make a good ideas and logistics programs to help these communities but think indigenous communities need good services adapted to their customs and conditions. Working together with volunteer’s groups.

  6. I think that sometimes it's difficult to attend the indigenous communities because they live away from the downtown, and when an emergency occurs or when the people need help with their health, the aid sometimes takes to get and conditions are bad.
Another aspect is that people of the government aren't always concerned for these people, and if the people responsible concerned about this communities, they could have hospitals, ebais and more education centers, in other words more development; this maybe is what does lack so that these communities are more incorporated into our society.

  7. If you ask me if indigenous communities are really abandoned, well I think that's difficult to say, because on one side when that communities have an emergency like a snakebite or a complicated disease, they try to look for help and sometimes the government isn't prepared to deal with it. But on the other hand, people who want to help have to be careful of not be trying to change the culture of the communities. Then, the way to know if these communities are really abandoned is asking them and pay attention to them, listen carefully is the key. Also the government has to listen to indigenous who want to go out of their community and study or do something different, I think governmet must help them, to let them know that is their choice to stay in their community or go to the cities. I think that nowadays there's many people trying to help but we don't know if they are helping them with things that they really need. So, I think that indigenous communities aren't abandoned at all but maybe they are not receiving the right help.

  8. I think that the main problem is the communication between government and indigenous people. Because, the government don´t have to make those people miss their identity and customs, but it has to remember that indigenous need health services, drugstores, scholar education and social attention like any other Costa Rican. In the other hand, the indigenous people have to pronounce their situation and fight for better conditions too. I don’t know how in a small country like this, there’re forgotten towns, if we should have to be united to make advance our country. All Costa Rican should be proud of indigenous and the love and care to the nature that they have, because if we analice, they are the real owns of our lands.
In Costa Rica, a lot of people are discriminated because there’s no great education about equality. If we want to see a change in our culture, not only on indigenous groups but in all minority groups, we have to teach our children to be helpful and tolerant with all people.

  9. The indigenous people has been abandoned in the latest years for the congress and this is because this minority is use to get votes in an election campaign and then anybody remember them. This people need more protection from the government, more opportunities of work, more acces to housing bonds becauses they lack adecuate houses. One of the most problems is kind of education they receives and how it is received, i think tha best form to help at the indigenous is encourage them to study without left your customs, fit the study system to them, in this form this people will can protect your rights and access to betters opportunities of living.

  10. one of the principal problems that happens with indigenous people, is that they live in very remote places and is very difficult to provide some food, clothes, electrodomestics or other kind of help. And this is one of the reasons that they are a little abandoned, i think one solution is to improvethe acces to their houses and is easier to them go to near cities. In my opinion the best way to icorporate indigenous people to the socienty is build somes schools, hospitals and some markets in the differents places they live, because some of them come to the city and is hard to see how they are in the street with theirs childs asking for help or money. There are some programs to help this people but is not enough, the people have to teach to the new generations how we can help. I think the goverment have to do something for indiginous people

  11. I think that in Costa Rica this comunities are forgotten, because they are in very remote areas, this is why they are not provided with electrodomestics, groceries, clothes, medicines.
We must become aware because these people are needing our help because they are devoid of water, electricity, have poor health and is important because very few people want to help this area. I think that is important to people want to get closer to this group and begin to understand that they are the culture´s roots of our country.
We shouldnt forget our roots. We need to raise awareness and educate others to help this area.

  13. The main problem to access to Talamanca or different indigenous regions of our country, is their location. Commonly, they are in faraway areas where it is difficult to transport food, clothes, shoes or anything else that we can give to this people.

However, it is really important to collaborate with this Costa Rican regions, first, it is necessary to help with the access to this areas, for example, building bridges on the main rivers, because it facilitates the comunication with the main city, Besides of this, it collaborates with the growth of the region too, because it makes easier the access to education (high schools, universities).

On the other hand, it's important to say that these areas are not totally abandoned. Don’t forget that Costa Rica helps indigenous people for christmas with money, food, children parties and presents for children or old people, nevertheless, this is not enougth. Therefore, it's really important to value the services that our indigenous receive in humanitarian mission from other countries.

  14. In my opinion the actual situation of this comunities is very complicated, because they live farway and not have service in this places, the major of time they do not have medicines, drinking water and waste water treatment, the waste water cause many diseases in the people. Other interesting thing abaout indegenous comunities is that they are rembember in the presidential campaigns to get votes. Is a good work fact by of members of a joint U.S but this comunities need more help every day not one day. They have rights and do not need only alms. This country need make action to help this comunites and provide medicines basic service and other things.
I think that this comunities are abandoned for the goverment, some hause do not have electricity in this year.
Is neccesary help this comunities for that they can to incorporate our indigenous people to our society

  15. The indigenous communities in costa rica are eight: Chorotegas, Guatusos, Huetares, Cabécar, Bribri, Térraba, Boruca and Ngobe. They are spread in 24 protected territories across the country, some of this territories are lands of trully dificult acsest and with this come all kind of dificulties, like going to hospitals, or get basic goods, nither speak about services like water, internet and electricity.
Despite of this dificulties indigenous communities in costa rica are not completly abandoned, there are several progams of the goverment that guard them for example the MEP keeps that all kids recive cuality education like any other kid would.
The incorporation of indigenous people in our society will begin whem we start give them the same oportunities as the rest of the country, for example in the TEC indigenous people have at least 3% of the total registration of students.

  16. I think the Indians are not abandoned. However, they live in tricky places to get in or out. It takes many hours to walk to get to them, or by helicopter, but it is very expensive.

Many of them have many needs, and the government supports them with some education programs. I think they can join our society with more support from other institutions, because our society is a little complicated or difficult for us who live here, for them it would be worse for language, safety, or work.

  17. In my opinion, the indigenous are abandoned communities because they are very far places from the ceenter of the country and the government don´t think about this people, and to incorporate our indigenous people to our society is nedded to give them better condittion in the acces to their cities and better acces to education and to the healthy sector. We need to incorporate our indigenous to our society because they are really important to our culture and our pass.

  18. In my opinion the indigenous situation in our country are very worried because they live away of hospitals, schools and other public places. I think in some cases the goverment doesn´t matter about them.

I think all the citizens of Costa Rica forget the indigenous people.
Is important to incorporate indigenous people with us, for me the way is make more activities like the new with people of public institutions and motivate the people to participe in social projects with this group of people.

  19. Related to the article, I think that this kind of humanitarian missions are great in all senses. The indigenous population of our country is often forgotten and almost anybody notices how much help they need most of the times.
For me, indigenous people are as important as any other person, regardless of the kind of life they have. They should also be abble to go to medical centres as many of us are used to, and to enjoy many of the services that are given to us. It is not fair that they must wait until these kind of missions are carried out!
As an example of the lack of attention I was mentioning before, I have never even heard about this place, Telire, mentioned in the article. We really need to be more helpful with everybody, even with those people that are not so close to us, like the indigenous population. They deserve an excellent treatment from everyone else, not just from volunteers or missioneers.

  20. In my opinion i think that the community indigenous in our country, If it's a little abandoned for the government and the rest of society Costa Rican, maybe one of the reasons is that your access is a bit complicated.
However this can be a benefict, because in this way they are as more protected from people who would like to take advantage of them, as well as a disadvantage also for safety reasons, as several times have been forced to have drug crops.
Finally, I think that if they should be taken more into account by the government in aspects as: education, health, security and must be incorporated as part of our society Costa Rican.

  21. Is hard to say if they area really abandoned people, actually they receive a lot of help from groups of volunteers, and organized groups.
But is needed to treat them as people, not as an spectacle, they need to be treated as an independent community, the fact that some people and the scholar opportunities are centred in left the youngs in the mountains, even if they want to be something else.

A couple years ago, a highschool professor told me: i saw a documental and the girl said, "what if i wanna go to college, be something more than a craftslady, what if i want to be a doctor or a scientist? it's really hard, i dont have any chance because in my high school, they only teach me how to be an indigenous, they don't teach me how to be a citizen or be something more"
Talk about indigenous communities is hard, because we're not prepared, we've never been prepared, we needed to start the dialog with the indigenous bosses and ask them what's what they want and respect that, even if their decition is not what the government wanna hear.

  22. In my opinion, the situation of the indigenous community is discriminated, due to the loss of identity that can turn quite limited, since, this sector of the Costa Rican population, it faces a series of exclusions and violations of its human rights. Also, the Costa Rican natives have the access to the public services very limited, and when they receive some of them, do it in very bad conditions.
I think that, indigenous communities are in abandonment, due to reasons like: most of the persons of the country suffer from undernourishment, and therefore, die of famine in different regions of the country, thanks to the permanent abandonment of the government. On the other hand, it is necessary to exalt the scarce right that they possess of education, for the big deficit of schools and teachers, also educational material.
For everything mentioned previously, I believe that these persons must be integrated to our society because thanks to them we are who we are now, and also, from them we inherit values and beginning that govern every people in particular, enriching with it the diversity between the cultures that we shape the Costa Rican nationality. . Although at the arrival of the invaders, the country was inhabited by numerous indigenous peoples, many of these were exterminated, be already a root of the clashes, unknown illnesses or due to the strong works like slaves.

  23. In my opinion, the indigenous people have access to many opportunities, since in these communities not only receives help from other Governments, but the local Government does efforts so that they always have the tools to overcome.

I don't believe that they are abandoned communities, in fact part of the efforts of the Government, is to send university students, who are studying teaching to these indigenous areas, also includes people who study Psychology, Social Work and other similar careers, to assist in their teaching and they can be overcome academically.

Indigenous peoples could have an access easier to the urban area but this also means that access would become more open to anyone, and for them this is breaking into their home, so I think that they know what involves joining the society and prefer to maintain their privacy and be part of an inclusive society and maintain the distance of the other to protect their home.

  25. For me the indigenous communities are the most forget, I think that they need more basic services in their region, because the principal problem is the difficult access to the hospitals and others, more closer to their community, in the most cases they have to walk several days to go for an hospital or EBAIS.
I believe that the means of access to these communities could be improved and thus to be able to offer them more help, but the problem is not only in the lack of access to all these basic services, I also feel that for these communities are not given the same Job opportunities and education that the rest of the country, they are also part of our country and they need better quality of life.

  26. My thoughts in this matter are various, because the indigenous people are in a situation of half-abandoned that is product of how far they are living and this difficult their access to a good health and educational system, because in rural areas the government destines a very low budget to supply the real needs of the population that lives in those zones. And, it shouldn't be that way because this areas have more needs than urban areas with more budget to invest; that is caused by the social problems that impacts harder in areas with a low index of literacy, those problems produce diseases and a low quality of life, for that and for a lot more reasons the government should send more money to indigenous communities, and not only money, the authorities have to build and improve schools and high schools, and even more important hospitals or centers of healthcare; this actions need to be done in order to increase the literacy, health and quality of life indexes, but more important to promote the inclusion of the indigenous communities in our country.
